The map displayed opposite was produced with the Geocap Interpretation system. every line on the map is in the database on the system and can be displayed as an image file or a map surface. There are thousand of miles and thousands of square displayed of data displayed on this map. We have divided up the entire East Coast into six different focus areas using logic based on the following: logic.
The lines were parsed from files that were furnished by the MMS (BOEMRE). The data was actually stored in PDF files. Pictures had been taken of film sections and taken to files. Multiple PDF files may be stored on one file. The parsing of individual lines or line segments became the first task.
After Parsing lines and line segments from larger large PDF files the data was inventories and attempt was made at cataloguing these files. All the positioning (navigation) data was procured from the MMS (BOEMRE). The parsed images were then calibrated vertically and calibrated horizontally utilizing the navigation data. There were quality control steps developed to insure proper data display. Special attention had to be observed with reference to the navigation data as some of the shot point locations were reversed and a lot of the data had the wrong navigation assigned to the referenced seismic line. Deliberate processes were developed to get the desired effects on the data volume. The desired effect being to get the data to display where it was supposed to be. It goes without saying that there was not attempts at doing any quality control on the positioning as there were not records containing any data other than shot point location found. The final position of a line was of course logically compared in the data set using the seismic data itself to ascertain validity.
Areas were divided using the following criteria:
- Historical references by industry and other entities mapping these large area.
- Geologic reference when possible.
- Customer views about certain areas and their subsequent interest.
- An attempt to make the areas close to equal for marketing purposes.
The named areas from south to north were nominated as follows
